yes there were other options besides killing the dog

The deadly force situation with law enforcement is definitely out of control. The blanket excuse is "I feared for my life" which is not usually the case. Punishment for murdering animals and people is simply a joke. The courts usually side with law enforcement with only trivial punishment if any. Most internal affairs investigations result in the officer's actions determined to be justifiable.

that cops a ignorant dick. somebody needs to beat him senseless. that would be like a civilian shooting a police dog for treying to help a officer. that poor dog was trying to protect his owner

This is a senseless act. Too much power behind that badge and gun ~ and I come from a long line of law enforcement. Better training, better educating, better background checks!!! Uncalled for in so many aspects. My heart is broken over the completely senseless act. If the officer is that reckless with his gun and a dog, god help the people.

I watched the video a few times to understand why it was that the Rot was shot. I witnessed the officers approach the man "after" he was leaving the scene. They waited the whole time he was standing on the street and did nothing until he was going to leave. Then I witness the dog being maced in the face by two of the officers. If you look closely you can see this happen, all while the dog was obeying the owners commands by staying back. A dogs instinct is to protect against danger. I witness...

If you look closely you can see this happen, all while the dog was obeying the owners commands by staying back. A dogs instinct is to protect against danger. I witness the dog being fearful that the owner was in danger, and not attacking any officer. The dog was also fearful and clearly uncomfortable of the officers gun being pointed in it's face. It didn't attack the officer, but only toward the gun being aimed at his face. You can also see one of the cops aggressively grabbing the owners face and throat as he is trying to command the dog to back down. I really hope the video is investigated thoroughly and the proper authorities find what I have seen here.

I did not catch that, the mace part, probably due to the violence of the video. I could only stand watching it once. I have a rott, you are correct, he was obeying his master. The third cop is trigger happy, he probably would have shot the dog even if it had stayed in the car.

treat this disgusting officer with the same savage response that he dealt to this animal. He does not deserve to wear a police uniform - he is nothing short of an uneducated prick!
