Poor baby. R.I.P. But not only the Sumatrans are responsible, we all are. We have to boycott products containing palm oil and write to the manufacturers to let them know that we do not want palm oil in our food. As long as there is a demand, there will be people and governments ready to satisfy that demand for profit.

It is thought that one in ten products found on our supermarket shelves today contain palm oil, but only a small percentage of the palm oil that is used to make these products, actually comes from a sustainable source.

But what can we do? Boycotting every product that we know to contain palm oil is simply not realistic but we can do our very best to try and encourage the producers of our favourite luxuries to find alternatives to palm oil to put into their products.

Under current legislation, companies are under no obligation to state whether or not their products contain palm oil specifically, as it currently permits palm oil to be stated in the ingredients as vegetable oil.
