Hideous. That dog was of medium size, and didn't look vicious, only as if he was demonstrating the usual loyalty dogs have for their owners. The man gave himself up voluntarily, and beyond the fact that fact that the dog seemed able to be restrained without being killed, what looked like sheer cruelty was the way the officer shot him repeatedly and then just stood back calmly, holding his fire while he WATCHED the dog writhe in pain. Why wouldn't he at least "finish off" the animal he...

Why wouldn't he at least "finish off" the animal he put in great pain in the first place?...That looked VERY sadistic. No one wants a sick, sadistic individual "officially" carrying a badge and a gun.

Totally agree! Take away the gun before he shots another innocent bystander. This is outrageous. That insect of a human should be shot and left to die slowly...

That officer have NO self control and needs to be FIRED! There were people around who could have EASILY been harmed from gunshots being fired for No Reason! ANY officer who pulls their gun so quickly and without good cause, Does Not Deserve To Serve THE PEOPLE.

Wow! That's quite an assessment. 4 times Max came at them. I believe the police showed remarkable self control. I know that there might have people off screen and in the line of fire, but there was nobody on screen and in the line of fire. Trust me, when a large, powerful dog, of the type that is frequently used for guard dog, is coming right at you, 4 times (one time being to within a foot or less of your body) the shots are not "for no reason". I disagree with your last statement. The...

I disagree with your last statement. The officer saw a real, potential threat (large dog who's owner was being held by the police) and responded as he should have. I'm pretty sure he didn't pull his gum thinking, "Oh goody, I get to shoot a big dog. Wait 'till I get his head mounted on my wall." Is that what you think he was thinking? Max's health and safety still set squarely on the shoulder of Max's owner.

police are mostly love to fire gun is make them feel great .and they are mostly stupid anyway that is why they want to be a police person to be in the uniform allow them to be stupid the way they act.. this is why I do not like cop not a bit.

Bridget, nothing like this is acceptable; the owner was telling the dog to stay back. Dogs protect their owners. You are 100% WRONG

You don't know all law enforcement, sweetie. A holes run in every line of work, and law enforcement is no exception. Case in point: this video. Get your head out of your a hole.

Are you nuts? Even though I am usually supportive of law enforcement, this was a cruel use of brute force! If you think that what that officer did was acceptable, YOU belong in the pile of excrement people who should be shot and left to die slowly as well!

say what? Did you WATCH the video??????????? what if that had been a child running towards his daddy? Cops these days may feel their life threatened by that also.

As a matter of fact, Leon Rosby's young daughter was in the car. She is devastated and frightened. She believes the Hawthorn PD would have harmed her father were it not for Max, the Rottweilers intervention that cost him his life.

Cop was obviously not a dog person. His behaviour from the moment the dog jumped up (hey what's going on here guys? Just jumping up, not gonna kill you..) shows that. I know how intimidating big rottys can be. But a gun fire up in the air for a warning at least... To kill the dog and shoot several times, even when the poor thing couldn't walk... That's when he should have stopped. The man was fucking evil to shoot again, and again. I'd love five minutes with that bastard.

What this officer did is terribly wrong!!! Max didn't deserve to die and I feel deeply for how Max's owner is feeling!!! On the other petition regarding the murder of Max an Officer of the Law commented, "There's no excuse here. What the officer did was wrong. Not to mention this was all started because the officers wanted to arrest the owner. For what? The music was too loud? For video taping? It's all bs!!!" But in the end poor Max is still dead!!! RIP Max, you didn't deserve to die like this!!!

I have already stated that I believe Max's shooting and death is tragic and I'm truly sorry Max is dead, but I'm afraid I missed the memo that says there's been a change in our moral structure. You know, the one that says an animal's life is more important than a human life. Mary Heller: in one of your replies you asked what if it had been a child running to his daddy. I submit that if the father had put the kid in the car and told him to stay there he would have done that. All things being...

I submit that if the father had put the kid in the car and told him to stay there he would have done that. All things being equal, it's not the same thing at all, but if there had been a child running to daddy, I'm sure the cop could tell the difference between a normal child and a rabid, red eyed, saber toothed child. Other than that, although I love animals I still believe that a human's life is more important than an animal's life, and I still believe the onus for Max's health and safety is on Max's owner.

You see this is a classic example of you not knowing the facts. Rosby's young daughter was in the car and in the line of fire as were several other bystanders. Jeffrey Salmon not only endangered Rosby and other residents with his trigger happy ways, he traumatized many children. Rosbys daughter has said that her father would have been harmed were it not for the dog. Then there is the part where Salmon announced that he would kill the dog before he proceeded to antagonize it with weapon...

Rosbys daughter has said that her father would have been harmed were it not for the dog. Then there is the part where Salmon announced that he would kill the dog before he proceeded to antagonize it with weapon drawn. Oh yes-- and then then their is Salmon's prior history of excessive force which has already resulted in Hawthorn paying over 1 million dollars in damages to settle the lawsuits for his out of control self. If you are gonna schmooze with the PD, at least have the sense to pick a real winner.

Poor max had no right to be shot to death any normal dog would try to protect thier owner. Just bc he was a rotty still gave no right to shoot him. Rots r the sweetest dogs if they r raised right but that bastard cop needs to be fired

Kevin Crockett

You know, I was going to leave this as a one-sided story, but this was just plain sloppy. What a farce. These people are trained to shoot and be able to judge what should be shot ?? Where was the calm and rational behavior needed by such people ? Not that it was very professional before hand though.
