Hideous. That dog was of medium size, and didn't look vicious, only as if he was demonstrating the usual loyalty dogs have for their owners. The man gave himself up voluntarily, and beyond the fact that fact that the dog seemed able to be restrained without being killed, what looked like sheer cruelty was the way the officer shot him repeatedly and then just stood back calmly, holding his fire while he WATCHED the dog writhe in pain. Why wouldn't he at least "finish off" the animal he put in great pain in the first place?...That looked VERY sadistic. No one wants a sick, sadistic individual "officially" carrying a badge and a gun.

Totally agree! Take away the gun before he shots another innocent bystander. This is outrageous. That insect of a human should be shot and left to die slowly...

That officer have NO self control and needs to be FIRED! There were people around who could have EASILY been harmed from gunshots being fired for No Reason! ANY officer who pulls their gun so quickly and without good cause, Does Not Deserve To Serve THE PEOPLE.

Wow! That's quite an assessment. 4 times Max came at them. I believe the police showed remarkable self control. I know that there might have people off screen and in the line of fire, but there was nobody on screen and in the line of fire. Trust me, when a large, powerful dog, of the type that is frequently used for guard dog, is coming right at you, 4 times (one time being to within a foot or less of your body) the shots are not "for no reason". I disagree with your last statement. The...

I disagree with your last statement. The officer saw a real, potential threat (large dog who's owner was being held by the police) and responded as he should have. I'm pretty sure he didn't pull his gum thinking, "Oh goody, I get to shoot a big dog. Wait 'till I get his head mounted on my wall." Is that what you think he was thinking? Max's health and safety still set squarely on the shoulder of Max's owner.

police are mostly love to fire gun is make them feel great .and they are mostly stupid anyway that is why they want to be a police person to be in the uniform allow them to be stupid the way they act.. this is why I do not like cop not a bit.

I feel bad for the dog, but I personally place blame on the owner. He was tryin to cause trouble with the cops. And in my opinion should have placed the dog in a secure place, meanin in the car with cracked windows. Obviously the dog is goin to be loyal to his owner and protect him. Very sad situation, where it could have totally been handled differently. RIP Max and I'm sorry that this happened.

No...you need to go back and watch the video again. That man wasn't interfering with what the police at all. They had absolutely NO reason to approach him at all.

He did put the dog in the car, and left the window down so the dog wouldn't get hot. Were you watching or what?

Other than America, where in the world do you get arrested for playing loud music. Why not just tell him to turn it off. There was no need to shoot that dog 4 time and leave it writhing in pain.

Hi Leon, if you get to read this, I am so sorry for you & Max, he died for you and they are tough dogs even with bullets in them......... Max's pain was only for a few moments, so dont dwell on it, then God took him and he is in safe hands now........ I hope the officers get the same treatment, if you see an officer being shot or hurt... just step over them and keep walking........... they do not care, I suspect being a black guy had a lot to do with what this evil pos did....................RIP Max.

Thx Lea, I know people do use the race card when they should'nt but with Leon being known to the police for standing up for his rights a while ago...... it is definitly played a part... revenge, I honestly believe if it was me a white guy instead of Leon, they would have allowed me to get Max........... Leaon did everything right, Max on a lead, then he put him in his car and the windows were slightly open so Max would not overheat.... he did what any rottie would do, he forced himself out...

My rottie would do the same and has protected me in the past....... I am glad to read the officers are of fronline duties... for 'their p[rotection'.... ppl think thats a cop out, but they probably are shitting bricks that not only Black folk want revenge, the white community do to! thx gary :)

Same here and in a heartbeat. My wife and used to have a Rottie too. Every cop that was part of the poor dog's killing should be fired without any benefits.

I have already stated that I believe Max's shooting and death is tragic and I'm truly sorry Max is dead, but I'm afraid I missed the memo that says there's been a change in our moral structure. You know, the one that says an animal's life is more important than a human life. Mary Heller: in one of your replies you asked what if it had been a child running to his daddy. I submit that if the father had put the kid in the car and told him to stay there he would have done that. All things being...

All things being equal, it's not the same thing at all, but if there had been a child running to daddy, I'm sure the cop could tell the difference between a normal child and a rabid, red eyed, saber toothed child. Other than that, although I love animals I still believe that a human's life is more important than an animal's life, and I still believe the onus for Max's health and safety is on Max's owner.

You see this is a classic example of you not knowing the facts. Rosby's young daughter was in the car and in the line of fire as were several other bystanders. Jeffrey Salmon not only endangered Rosby and other residents with his trigger happy ways, he traumatized many children. Rosbys daughter has said that her father would have been harmed were it not for the dog. Then there is the part where Salmon announced that he would kill the dog before he proceeded to antagonize it with weapon...

Then there is the part where Salmon announced that he would kill the dog before he proceeded to antagonize it with weapon drawn. Oh yes-- and then then their is Salmon's prior history of excessive force which has already resulted in Hawthorn paying over 1 million dollars in damages to settle the lawsuits for his out of control self. If you are gonna schmooze with the PD, at least have the sense to pick a real winner.

Poor max had no right to be shot to death any normal dog would try to protect thier owner. Just bc he was a rotty still gave no right to shoot him. Rots r the sweetest dogs if they r raised right but that bastard cop needs to be fired

You know, I was going to leave this as a one-sided story, but this was just plain sloppy. What a farce. These people are trained to shoot and be able to judge what should be shot ?? Where was the calm and rational behavior needed by such people ? Not that it was very professional before hand though.

This is so disgusting! The owner places his dog in the car responsible act #1. The dog is on a leash act #2, he gives himself up act #3. He was no threat to the officers so why was he placed in hand cuffs to be walked to the patrol car? Let the owner whose been responsible for a "large mean breed" of dog go to secure his animal? Max is now a face for all of those owners who love there dogs who are responsible . I have a chow chow, I am responsible & I will stand behind Max's actions as well...

The officer should be fired without pay and be labeled with animal cruelty charges. If the owners see's this post, sue the fuck out of Hawthorne PD! Bastereds should be thrown in jail for this.....
