I volunteer 3 days a week at our small local shelter. All the animals want so much love, and I feel privileged to be able to work with these special cats and dogs to help them find their forever homes.❤

Jim, that is hard to believe.....what a shame. How they could turn away a compassionate person wanting to help is a travesty! No matter what your abilities or disabilities are, if you want to help, they can find something suitable for you that you can do to help the animals. There are lots of shelters and rescues and I think you should continue to look until you find one. You need to find the right fit. It is hard to believe that a shelter would discriminate in that way! The animals certainly don't! Keep trying and thanks for caring!

I am disabled too. I volunteer by offering companionship love and of course treats! Keep trying, shelters need loving people like you!

I currently have two adopted rescue dogs - Precious and Charlie. My life has never been the same! I would have more if I had the space, but in a one bedroom apartment, this is all I can squeeze in! I usually stay away from shelters because emotionally I can't take it - I want to take them all home, and because I can't, it upsets me. However, that is the worst excuse in the world, and I have to stay strong and get back in there. I used to volunteer, and now that I am a full time student...

I used to volunteer, and now that I am a full time student I have the time to do so again, so I am really looking forward to it! Since I have so much love to give yet can't open my home to more animals, I feel that I can take that love and go to the shelters and clean, walk, and just give the animals individual attention, which they need most of all. My two dogs are very traumatized from abuse and neglect and I want to do all I can to help others.

There are plenty of cats in shelters in this country if you still want to help!

This is my Artie that I adopted from my local dog shelter four years ago. He is such a joy. I do not know what I would do without him. I will be volunteering at the shelter beginning in May. I hope I can help the poor homeless dogs there. Playing with them, and giving them love and attention I hope helps them.

I volunteer at an adoption center that is staffed 100% by volunteers. We foster until they can be adopted into their furever homes.

I volunteer for Lab Retriever Rescue of FL and SHARE, a Shepherd rescue. I own 2 Labs I adopted after fostering them. I have never bought a dog; I rescue and save and have done so since I was about 10 years old. Adopt please and save a life today. Open your heart to true love.

I volunteer at the largest no-kill shelter in the North East where most of the dogs come from other states. These states have overpopulation issues due to their lenient laws and the fact that they do not neuter and spay. These states deal with the "problem" by euthanizing the animals that wind up in their shelters because they run out of space.. Yes, it is difficult and emotional to see these dogs, feeling bad for them, wanting to take them all home etc., etc. However, you have to...

However, you have to realize that without volunteers, these dogs do not have human interaction, unconditional love and compassion. They would not be taken out to play or for walks. Our dogs get walked every 1-2 hours, are supplied with cozy beds and toys and have accidents cleaned up right away. Instead of feeling sad, you will feel happy that you are making a difference in each one of their lives until they are taken home by their forever families. I do want to mention that of course the dogs do get all they need from the wonderful staff. However, with volunteers, they get much more simply because of greater numbers helping and caring. This is a rewarding experience and anyone who is able should give it a try. The dogs (and cats) will be so appreciative!
