USA, as a nation, has been 'open for business'; it's time for USA to be 'open for all', to go beyond free trade toward freedom for all people to join our democracy if they want to, to live here, to join us in struggling to live well, justly and to live sustainably in this part of earth.

Thanks Brian! We know people everywhere can identify with what it means to have to move and migrate for opportunity and for a better life. And since we are in this together, the first step is to understand one another and the values that bring us together in community. Help us reach more people and share the video. Thank you!

We are in crisis now because our citizens cannot all take care of themselves.. Allowing everyone to come would tax our resources to the breaking point, possibly taking to a national meltdown.. I am not anti immigration, I'm pro United States.. Everyone in the 'New World' is American.. What we are really talking about is The United States of America..

IM ALL FOR PEOPLE BETTER THIER LIFE BUT THEY NEED TO DO IT THE LEGAL WAY JUST LIKE ALL THE REST OF US LEGAL AMERICANS DID! NOT ILLEGALLY LIKE THEY DID!
THEY SHOULD NOT BE GIVEN AMNESTY FOR DOING SOMETHING ILLEGAL! THEY SHOULD GO THROUGH THE CHANNELS THAT EVERYONE ELSE HAD TO TO BECOME A LEGAL AMERICAN! WE SHOULD NOT REWARD THEM FOR STEALING THIER WAY INTO OUR COUNTRY!!!! GO BACK AND COME HERE LEGALLY!

Immigration has been on the limelight lately..here's my 2 cents about it....The immigration issue is a complex thing. Immigration has been on the limelight lately..here's my 2 cents about it....The immigration issue is a complex thing. America has been seen for a long time as the promised land..and despite whatever the politicians and media says..it continues to be the land of opportunity..The reality is, America is not getting crowded despite what the media tells you..we remain to have the least number of people per square mile and less percentage of immigrants than lets say England or France. Even with these numbers, we still send back home an average of a million immigrants a year! Most illegal immigrants have the same drive as legals do: THE DRIVE TO HAVE A BETTER LIFE FOR THEMSELVES & THEIR FAMILIES. Most of them do jobs that are low paying, too physical, too uncomfortable, too dirty, and too unsatisfying for even some of us "legals" to admit. And I don't think that sending them all home will create employment opportunities for people who were born here anyway. Its just going to leave a lot of houses unfinished, fruits unpicked, food uncooked, dishes unwashed, beds unmade, office buildings uncleaned, and farms unharvested. So if they get a free pass to stay, why would we be envious?, Why would we be jealous? Why would we be disheartened? We think that we did it the hard way and yet we probably would not trade places the way they got in..even if it meant getting a free pass later. THE CONVERSATION IS REALLY ABOUT FAIRNESS! So, let us share what would be fair to each one of us affected and create a better immigration law. I think that for us that are already here, our job is to make this country an even better place...this way we can open it up more for the world's weary, tired, poor, huddled masses yearning to breathe free, and wretched refuse. God Bless these United States of America!

Human Beings are brothers, sisters "children of damo & Eva" we;ve to love each other and we've to be free to move whenever we feel to do that "from difficult situation to the better life" and let we hope for Better World.

I am honestly wondering who is funding "Define American". This is a pulpit site for Jose to pontificate his opinion that he gets to break the rules and our laws. Hey Jose, why not meet us at http://www.dcmarchforjobs.com/#/ on Monday and tell us Americans to our face that we are anti-immigrant and are against immigration. I firmly believe you don't have the stones (while hiding behind your media protection of
obfuscation).

I just ran across this video called 'Deport Hate': http://www.upworthy.com/if-you-watch-this-video-you-probably-wont-need-to-turn-on-fox-news-for-a-few-months. It does a nice job of pulling together some of the most ridiculous anti-immigration arguments in a way that highlights how non-sensical and bigoted they are.

Why can't you become a citizen? What about all the immigrants who came to ellis Island and then pledged to become citizens. Why can't you do that. I don't understand the difference. Why didn't they get green cards back then? I have heard the term, but don't really know much about it.

Hi Sheila. This is such an important question, thanks for bringing it up. There actually isn't a straightforward path to citizenship or a "line" for people to get in. At the turn of the century when people were coming through Ellis Island, the same restrictions didn't exist. Immigration documents were not actually required of newcomers until 1918, and even then, it was much easier to enter the country. More many years during the great European migration, federal oversight of immigration didn’t exist and there were virtually no laws to break. There was no border surveillance and people didn’t need to obtain visas before entering. As the Immigration Policy Center put it, “immigrants would simply arrive at ports of entry, such as Ellis Island and other seaports to be inspected, and then would be allowed in if they didn’t fall into any of the excluded categories.” I'm going to share a couple of links with you that will be helpful. The first highlights the impossible maze that is the immigration system: http://bit.ly/XeqcBI And the second is an excellent primer on Ellis Island migration: http://bit.ly/XHjJlA

I like to see family together there dont get separated see some children lose their mom or dad of the family everybody get separate

The immigrants themselves are the ones who are separating families by choosing to come over illegally. That is the risk they take when they chose to come over illegally. The child whose parent is deported has only that parent to blame, not immigration agents for doing their job.

It's better to be happy and generous than proud. Canada is a wonderful place but as a Glawegian Kelly I don't feel pride. Just happy.
