I'm not from England but, I would look at how everything was paid on the other Prime Minister's funerals and they all should be treated equally. Everyone has their pro's and con's, and there is no one but God who is perfect. So I think her funeral should be handled the same as they did for other Prime Minister's.

Okay, nobody´s perfect, but then there are those who actively work against the people they claim to represent...

Hello Richard, by putting it that way I can see why many turned against her. It would upset me to by voting in someone and then having them work against me. Thank You for comment and May God Bless You Richard....

They should be made to pay for their own funerals, All countries, are in a terrible state, & we all have to pay for our own, when we die.

Well that's like why should our Presidents be paid the enormous amount of money that they get, for the rest of their lives, I think that also sucks. Why should Congress be paid the high amounts and still have tax payers footing their big check when they leave office. Government anywhere is a big scam being paid for by the tax payers.

YES,,,she should,,she has "life insurance and her estate" will cover at least half the cost, also i think her children should bare the cost, as it was her wages that brought them up and educated them...

What doesn't seem to be mentioned here is that many people who attended 'protests' in the '80's were arrested and imprisoned without charges or any 'trial'.

Can people understand that a proportion of the nation might want to pay their respects to a departed leader? Understand it or not it is the case to which tens of thousands of people lay testament. If it is not for the state to pay should it then be for her family to foot the bill for a public funeral? Or perhaps instead an honesty box for people along the procession line? She herself didn't want an elaborate state funeral, that was part of her principle of not pouring public money into lost...

She herself didn't want an elaborate state funeral, that was part of her principle of not pouring public money into lost causes. There isn't a former head of state in the UK whose funeral hasn't been paid for by public money. What does this group want to say? No funerals should be paid for by public money? Presumably no living expenses either then? Whilst we're at it why not ban the funding of all public affairs by public funds. If someone wants to run the country we should make them pay for it out of their own pocket? Get a grip. Your tax is spent on much worse.

Not to the sum of 10 million pounds, no.

Also, in all honesty, I wouldn't allow MPs to have living expenses - that's called THEIR WAGES, just in the same respect that EVERYONE WHO WORKS needs to pay for their own home, food, tv, etc

The family wanted to pay for it (and they are paying for some of it) but as she was our Prime Minister, voted in by the people, she is entitled to a state funeral. Tony Blair will be entitled to one as well as have all past prime ministers whether or not you liked them. She was voted in for a second term by the people. Unlike Cameron who was not voted in by the people. I believe that people have the right to their own opinions and I bet there will be some nasty ones sent to me.

Sheila - She may be entitled according to some, but to others she is not entitled because of her political intolerance. Pease note - no nastiness towards you.

She wasn't given a state funeral as entitled by her role as Prime Minister, she was given a ceremonial funeral which is usually given to the highest of the Royal Family.

As a obvious fan of thatcher, feel free to send cash to her poor family, and i will send emails to all the families who lost their jobs and industries she screwed and i can say with out any doubt the reply will be rot in hell you evil woman she has been really lucky as they burnt witches in the old days,a fitting end to her destructive and public slaughter of our Pits and steelworks and shipbuilding to name a few,so we dont owe her fek all.

This country needs more nurses, schools, teachers etc etc etc

Its an insult to the memory of the Queen Mother to afford Thatcher the same status of funeral.

Did I give my consent? Did you? Did I want one penny of my money spent on this despised and vile woman's funeral? This whole event stinks as badly as her corpse. Rub salt into the deep and still festering wounds of communities destroyed by her, miners once heroes turned into the "enemy within", baton charged and beaten bloody from horseback.
Strong... yes, determined, yes , nationalist, yes.... just the qualities ascribable to any other fascist scum you care to name. I am enraged by it all...

I am enraged by it all ...... so many gullible folk suckered into the conspiracy of big brother, misdirected from the reality of divided and divisive life in the 2-tier UK. Sleight of tongue manouvers diverting attention onto immigration, tactics of fear, uncertainty insecurity .... look after #1, hate thy neighbour. Enough said. it's all too big a topic to even start here. Shout out against this millionaire lead sham democracy ...... we HAVE to do something..... soon!

Think this is absolutely disgraceful, she is being treated like royalty; which of course is exactly what she thought she was!!. Strongly disagree that this woman's funeral expenses should come from ordinary hard working people, the very people that she caused so much financial hardship to.

Whit all my respect, it is so wrong for the people to pay the funeral,of Margaret Thatcher.Even most of the English people they have not like her.
