In England, Pit Bulls are known as the nanny dog because they are so gentle with children; as Heather says, its the people, not the dogs.
In England pitbulls are banned. https://www.gov.uk/control-dog-public/banned-dogs We called them nanny dogs, find a few clips of Little Rascals, they had Sparky a pitbull who watched over them ..
And from a quick search, here are three examples of the proven point of how seriously, selflessly, sweet, precious pittys can be (and many more where these came from!) : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pUV1oTciznE , http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=75GEzD6wh8o , http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lLnhy6oHQ1M
This is absolutely true. But people tend to only see how an animal acts and then think that is how he/she acts naturally, completely neglecting the heavy influence of the training and treatment he/she got from the people.
My pittie is a Nanny dog! He absolutely loves my 2 granddaughters. When my youngest granddaughter was just learning to walk....he would let us know when she was 'sneaking' to the stairs and when she was upstairs, he would position his body between her and the stairs....NO way was going to fall down the stairs on HIS watch. :) Love my pittie, Dakota!
not with my 2 year old cousin.... it killed him and it was his dog so dont tell me its the owner...
Becky, I am sorry to hear about your cousin. But, it isn't the breed. Some dogs have a wire loose, just like people do. I volunteer at a 100% no-kill shelter. We have 5 "VIP" dogs. One has actually been diagnosed bipolar. He is friendly one second, and the next he viciously growls. We have 2 others that will act normal and then start pacing the yard and bite without warning. These dogs are used to us because they are permanent residents, but will still bite. Certain people take them out, not...

No trace of pit bull at all. Pit bulls aren't vicious as everyone makes them out to be. I work with all kinds of dogs all the time and I honestly have never met a smarter and more gentle breed of dog.

Outlawing a breed of dog is as dumb as would be outlawing cars for drunk drivers! Its a PEOPLE problem. Thugs (like Michael Vick) who do this to animals are very sick in the head and should stay locked up in a cage forever. We have more to fear from those type PEOPLE , BAN THEM instead ! If there is Karma then there will be a day soon when two 400lbs linebackers ....
Love that analogy!
I couldnt have said it any better!
Can I use this? :)
Pit bulls are the best. You need to ban the bad owners. Not the dogs!!!
Agreed : )
Instead of banning family pets, BAN POLITICIANS!
We are gonna get them to see the truth. Ignorance is based in fear. They have nothing to fear but their own ignorance.
There are no bad dogs, just bad owners. Punish the deed, not the breed. BSL is wrong on all accounts!
Yes it is!!
" YES YES"
Pit bulls have no voice.. It is time we gave them our voice..
We have had Chicago, our first ever a blue nose american bull terrier as I refer to his breed, because of ignorant people. He is the best dog I have ever had smart, loving and he has great manners. We are an older couple and even thou he's never shown aggression I know he would protect us with his life.
signed...I own a Pit Bull and a few members in my family have Pit Bulls...My Pit Tyson is so kind and gentle...I teach kids and adults not to believe the bad stuff about Pits....I let the kids play with him...run....when he is tired they get him water and just hang out with him....in my neighborhood all know Tyson...of course a few idiots who listen to stories without reading about them....little by little they are learning....my dog is my listener...confidant...my buddy.......
I agree with Evelyn; itsthe people that give themthe bad name, not the pit bulls!! They are ever good with children and they are very protective of there families! <3
They may be so protective of their families that they may cause harm to an innocent person or dog that just happens to go near their property!

Caitlan Homer said it beautifully: "The dog is an image of the cruel and inhuman people they unfortunately recieve as "caretakers". They are not born that way, but made that way. Not only are they made that way, but made that way against their will. Animals don't have voices. But I'll be damned if I can't be a voice for the ones I am able to."
Having been a Veterinary Technician for 30 years, I can say there are some dog breeds that I would rather not handle. Pit bulls are not on my list! I owned a Shepherd X Pitt bull for 17 years....best dog I have EVER had! Sweet, loving and loyal. She alerted me when I was having a heart attack!
