In England, Pit Bulls are known as the nanny dog because they are so gentle with children; as Heather says, its the people, not the dogs.

In England pitbulls are banned. https://www.gov.uk/control-dog-public/banned-dogs We called them nanny dogs, find a few clips of Little Rascals, they had Sparky a pitbull who watched over them ..

And from a quick search, here are three examples of the proven point of how seriously, selflessly, sweet, precious pittys can be (and many more where these came from!) : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pUV1oTciznE , http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=75GEzD6wh8o , http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lLnhy6oHQ1M

This is absolutely true. But people tend to only see how an animal acts and then think that is how he/she acts naturally, completely neglecting the heavy influence of the training and treatment he/she got from the people.

My pittie is a Nanny dog! He absolutely loves my 2 granddaughters. When my youngest granddaughter was just learning to walk....he would let us know when she was 'sneaking' to the stairs and when she was upstairs, he would position his body between her and the stairs....NO way was going to fall down the stairs on HIS watch. :) Love my pittie, Dakota!

Becky, I am sorry to hear about your cousin. But, it isn't the breed. Some dogs have a wire loose, just like people do. I volunteer at a 100% no-kill shelter. We have 5 "VIP" dogs. One has actually been diagnosed bipolar. He is friendly one second, and the next he viciously growls. We have 2 others that will act normal and then start pacing the yard and bite without warning. These dogs are used to us because they are permanent residents, but will still bite. Certain people take them out, not...

These dogs are used to us because they are permanent residents, but will still bite. Certain people take them out, not knowing what their attitude is that day. NONE of these dogs are pit bull. No trace of pit bull at all. Pit bulls aren't vicious as everyone makes them out to be. I work with all kinds of dogs all the time and I honestly have never met a smarter and more gentle breed of dog.

32 years ago, we had a dog named "Quinto"...that dog saved not only me, but my now 31 year old daughter from attackers and a german shepard...it's not the breed people...it's the people who abuse them and the breeds that are trained by abuse and for aggression.

Pit bulls have no voice.. It is time we gave them our voice..

We have a pit bull and he thinks he's a lap dog. He is good with kids and people and other animals. It's the way their treated. Any dog can be a bad dog.

Outlawing a breed of dog is as dumb as would be outlawing cars for drunk drivers! Its a PEOPLE problem. Thugs (like Michael Vick) who do this to animals are very sick in the head and should stay locked up in a cage forever. We have more to fear from those type PEOPLE , BAN THEM instead ! If there is Karma then there will be a day soon when two 400lbs linebackers ....

We have had Chicago, our first ever a blue nose american bull terrier as I refer to his breed, because of ignorant people. He is the best dog I have ever had smart, loving and he has great manners. We are an older couple and even thou he's never shown aggression I know he would protect us with his life.

Pit bulls are the best. You need to ban the bad owners. Not the dogs!!!

Collette I really feel sorry for you. You seem to be one of those people that judge first and get facts later. I really would like to urge you to go and do some reading up on this whole matter. Broaden your own knowledge before making an uneducated comment. If you can make a statement like that then I can only asume we dont have bad parents either their bad kids where born that way and made we should just kill all those bad born kids as well

We as a whole stand for freedom, So many battles fought for our freedom. Who is to speak for our animals but us, humans. No one has the right to ban a breed do to the stupidity, fear, and being uneducated. If we start letting our gov. take away our rights a little at a time, we no longer have a say in what go's . So does that mean that in 1776 those our fought and died for our independents had died for nothing? Do we as american's stand up and fight against this or simply sit back and say...

In the 70's is was the Dobermans, in the 80's it was the German Shepherds, in the 90's it was the Rottweilers, now it's the Pit Bulls. When will we start to blame the HUMANS?

exactly! We are going to hold people accountable and we are starting with law makers.
