In England, Pit Bulls are known as the nanny dog because they are so gentle with children; as Heather says, its the people, not the dogs.

In England pitbulls are banned. https://www.gov.uk/control-dog-public/banned-dogs We called them nanny dogs, find a few clips of Little Rascals, they had Sparky a pitbull who watched over them ..

And from a quick search, here are three examples of the proven point of how seriously, selflessly, sweet, precious pittys can be (and many more where these came from!) : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pUV1oTciznE , http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=75GEzD6wh8o , http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lLnhy6oHQ1M

This is absolutely true. But people tend to only see how an animal acts and then think that is how he/she acts naturally, completely neglecting the heavy influence of the training and treatment he/she got from the people.

My pittie is a Nanny dog! He absolutely loves my 2 granddaughters. When my youngest granddaughter was just learning to walk....he would let us know when she was 'sneaking' to the stairs and when she was upstairs, he would position his body between her and the stairs....NO way was going to fall down the stairs on HIS watch. :) Love my pittie, Dakota!

Becky, I am sorry to hear about your cousin. But, it isn't the breed. Some dogs have a wire loose, just like people do. I volunteer at a 100% no-kill shelter. We have 5 "VIP" dogs. One has actually been diagnosed bipolar. He is friendly one second, and the next he viciously growls. We have 2 others that will act normal and then start pacing the yard and bite without warning. These dogs are used to us because they are permanent residents, but will still bite. Certain people take them out, not...

These dogs are used to us because they are permanent residents, but will still bite. Certain people take them out, not knowing what their attitude is that day. NONE of these dogs are pit bull. No trace of pit bull at all. Pit bulls aren't vicious as everyone makes them out to be. I work with all kinds of dogs all the time and I honestly have never met a smarter and more gentle breed of dog.

My sister went to the vet. She was taken her good miniature poodle and some golden doodle. While taken care of two dogs which are very behaved, a staff member at the vet was taking her two pitbulls out. What happened next was awful. The pitbulls went off towards my sisters dogs. Bit the goldendoodle on the back and was severally bleeding. My sister was shield her neck and got her hand nearly bitten off. And if the minature poodle had gotten bitten it would be dead period. Scientist and dog...

Scientist and dog professionals have explained due to the pitbulls aggressive nature is WHY people do not like them. Their instincts are more canine and aggressive in nature than most other breeds. It is why they are known for guard dogs and such. I am very much NOT going to sign this petition. I know 3 other incidents revolving around pitbulls and most were owned by professionals or well prepared trainers. Its the dog sometimes. Do not blame always on the owner.

I am glad your animals survived the attack. Still, somewhere down the line it was a human who caused the over-aggressiveness... sometimes from genetics due to what was done to the mama dog or somewhere down the lineage, being passed on to the dog with issue. It is a proven, scientific fact. No matter how you slice it, it is always the humans who tinker with animals and nature and screw them up. A terribly sad fact, but a true one at that.

On another note, I don't know about any of you (fellow pitbull lovers) but I get treated and looked at differently because of my dog, who has done nothing wrong to anyone. To me its discrimination when someone treats you a certain way because of an animal. Just like with ethnic discrimination, it's wrong. Denying me that right to own whatever breed of dog I choose is my right that shouldn't be taken away from me! Or housing telling you that you can't live or rent there because of what...

Denying me that right to own whatever breed of dog I choose is my right that shouldn't be taken away from me! Or housing telling you that you can't live or rent there because of what breed of dog you have. My fiancé and I were looking at a townhouse that had these by-laws and of course no pits along with rottweilers, mastiffs, Dobermans and wolf hybrids. Thankfully I live in Montana where we do not have breed specific bans, and I would very much like to keep it that way. As I said in my previous statement, I would take a bullet for my girl. If anyone wants to try to take my dog away from me I have one thing to say, bring it on and see what happens.

Angel, my baby girl. The light in my and my fiancé's eyes. She is just the sweetest thing in the world with so much love to give. I will fight for this breed and argue with ignorant people about them to the day I die. I would take a bullet for my girl and hopefully soon her baby brother :) I don't understand how every other breed can bite but you never hear about it unless its a Pit Bull. Get a reality check people! it's the fault of irresponsible owners not the dogs!
