My brother was Navy (USS Texas). My uncle died before I was born, going down with the Navy on the USS Houston in 1942. My late husband & father-in-law were USAF. He'd lost his larynx first, then a lung, then prostate, then a 4th cancer. And, finally, my nephew joined the USAF right after high school, met his wife--also USAF-- in Alaska, & they both made a career of it, with many, many deployments. She retired after 20, & he's still at it, moving up in the EOD ranks, now stationed in D.C. Their high school age daughter is in Jr Air Force ROTC. You might say the military runs in my family, & I'm extremely proud of, and grateful to, all of them. But we need to do much more for our veterans. Too many are hungry and homeless.
