I take used ones back to store for recycle -- keep forgetting to take my "green" bags to store -- need to try and get that set as a routine when I go shopping!!!

Thomas, all you have to do is keep them in your car so that you'll never forget them! :-)

If the stores would offer 5 cents off for each bag (canvas) used off purchase, stores could cut back on this plastic bag demand and have a campaign to buy canvas bags from their store free with x amount of dollars spent and reusing their bags would be .10 cents off per bag to motivate people using canvas bags. Remember when recyling bottles for soda worked well. Now everything is plastic sadly. This is workable and healthy for the environment too.

Thanks Stephen Baker, I think I am up for the challenge my idea for this design would invoke and involve a lot of changes in homes and within the waste companies. I think its is a great idea and would do away with the bag issue altogether, Hefty may not be very pleased and all of the people that work there would be out of work; and that is just one bag company; I don't be responsible for that. It is like the oil issue its killing us and the environment but we depend on it and to switch now...

It is like the oil issue its killing us and the environment but we depend on it and to switch now would devastating to our economy. Maybe if implemented over time slowly, the idea could be integrated and it is just in theory no designs have been drawn up no laboratory test have been done. As for my idea it is staying in my head for now, but thank you for inspiring me maybe this is my million dollar baby. I am a struggling Drafter and Designer who is working for temp services and building my office skills. This may be and opportunity to sell a simple idea and to finally sell myself as a designer.

I did my R&R from Vietnam in August 69 in Singapore; I thought one of the cleanest cities I have ever been in.. the fine for littering is about $500 US in 1969 then not sure now littering was a major hit if caught

many stores (like Kroger's ) that give plastic bags have recycle bin; if u return same to store will help; also some stores still ask paper or plastic in some cases

I have recently started to fill plastic bottles with plastic wraps, I think this is a great idea, at least if a plastic bottle is going to be recycled, all the wraps will recycle as well, and they won't be everywhere in the fields as wenusually see them.

It's great to hear about all the creative and intrinsic ways people are reusing bags!

Even in a small town in Honduras I still use my "reduce/reuse/recycle" bags! The cashiers all know me now and ask for my bags before starting to bag the food! pretty funny!

Originally they were giving paper bags at the grocery store and than they switched to plastic bags. Now they sell reusable bags.
