After reading this i will think twice before i throw out another grocery bag, it's so easy to return them to the store... As I recall don't most stores have a big box at the entrance? Maybe more states should impose a deposit system.
yes John and sometimes we that like the environment need to be advocates for same and not let someone else do the "heavy lifting" take a positive effort in your state to see if a law could be enacted to do what u suggest
Bags away! Everyone do your best to pitch in. Plastic is like so 50s, man.
They're great for trash can liners and kitty litter. Walmart recycles them. Like all other environmental issues, these problems get solved one person at a time.
Carlos: Yes, they are good for trash, etc. The problem is that anything you throw out in one takes a LOT longer to break down into it's components or become compost because of the plastic it's wrapped in, so even in landfills it is a hindrance. Until we exert pressure to make them 100% recyclable (as in biodegradable) or stop the use & OVERuse of them (w/cloth bags, recycling, etc.) they will only make the problem worse. Thanks tho- to all of the stores where we can now take LDPS (what they...

Plastic takes 700 to 800 years to dissolve in nature, polluting our soil with it's toxicity. Recycling does not really mean anything. Only 100% plant based Bio Plastic will compost without leaving a toxic residue in 3 months. It is also 100% recyclable. You will be able to recycle regular plastic only ONE TIME, and only max 10% mixed with the virgin plastic. WE SHOULD DEMAND THE USE OF BIO PLASTIC IN ORDER TO MAKE A DIFFERENCE AND HELP THE MOTHER EARTH!
Thank you for educating me. Could we pass this knowledge on to the people with the power to fix this?
I've used only cloth grocery bags for several years now. I keep 3-4 in each of 2 cars. I recycle 95% of all plactic bags including bread, sandwich etc and I use only paper bags for trash at home.
If you use paper bags, how do you keep the bottom of the bag from splitting open? That's why I use plastic bags. I could never understand why people can't save and reuse plastic bags.
I put only dry things in the paper bags. Anything wet and not recyclable goes into a coconut milk (non plastic) carton and then dispose of it in the trash. I also use mostly recycled biodegradable paper bags :D
T. Soroyan A helpful suggestion to all dog owners: instead of using plastic bags for your dogs' poop; use a sheet or two of paper towel. I wrap the poop in it and make it my business to collect small brown bags to put it in. I then toss it in the nearest trash bin. If you can't find a small brown bag, use newspaper. It works just as well and helps us get off our addiction to plastic bags.
There has now been a huge proliferation of reusable bags, some of which are not easily recyclable when they come to the end of their natural life, which is becoming an additional problem!! Brown paper bags like the old days would be better---they are reusable for a period of time, and also easily recyclable.
bring ur own vinyl or cotton shopping bag.
