They're great for trash can liners and kitty litter. Walmart recycles them. Like all other environmental issues, these problems get solved one person at a time.
Carlos: Yes, they are good for trash, etc. The problem is that anything you throw out in one takes a LOT longer to break down into it's components or become compost because of the plastic it's wrapped in, so even in landfills it is a hindrance. Until we exert pressure to make them 100% recyclable (as in biodegradable) or stop the use & OVERuse of them (w/cloth bags, recycling, etc.) they will only make the problem worse. Plastic takes 700 to 800 years to dissolve in nature, polluting our soil with it's toxicity. Recycling does not really mean anything. Only 100% plant based Bio Plastic will compost without leaving a toxic residue in 3 months. It is also 100% recyclable. You will be able to recycle regular plastic only ONE TIME, and only max 10% mixed with the virgin plastic. WE SHOULD DEMAND THE USE OF BIO PLASTIC IN ORDER TO MAKE A DIFFERENCE AND HELP THE MOTHER EARTH!
Thank you for educating me. Could we pass this knowledge on to the people with the power to fix this?
We take cloth bags to the stores with us. Even so, We still end up with a lot of plastic. We use it as waste can liners, As packaging when shipping, at our vegetable stand and recycle the rest.
I like Daire's comment. We should have a surcharge on plastic bags.
good plan Frank and good use also
Some places in New Zealand have a surcharge, but if people need carry bags they pay it anyway. The price of the plastic bag needs to be prohibitive if this is going to make any kind of difference to the amount of plastic bags entering the waste dumps.
I always reuse any and all plastic bags I get either for trash or for picking up presents left by the neighborhood dogs on the neutral ground or sidewalk. LOL
I also try to use the cloth bags sold by most food and variety stores. They hold more and are easier to carry than the plastic and paper bags.
PLEASE EVERYONE GO GREEN!
a noble though Stephen from Stephen
I can go down any street and find plastic bags everywhere. They are hanging in trees, blowing across the streets and stuck in fences. IF you MUST use one, RECYCLEI IT!!
I know I forget my cloth shopping bags sometimes but I ALWAYS recylce plastic.
Get it together!
I agree. Let's all get it together and GO GREEN!
Many years ago, the world was fine with paper grocery bags !! When plastic bags started being made, Governments should have intervened and ordered the companies to make these bags biodegradable !! So now, governments should make the plastic bag companies pay for the cleanup of their products !!! ALSO, the internet has many ideas to use up these bags -- (my friends and I stuff these bags into quick-sewn outside patio cushions, etc.) !!!!
Governments should have done a lot of things right. The world is a mess.
Its sad to see those plastic bags on the side of the road. They hang from natural beauty of nature.
I agree. GO GREEN!
PLEASE ! PLEASE! STOP USEING PLASTIC BAGS ? AND TAKE A FOLD UP BAG OF YOUR OWN TO HELP STOP ALL THIS ?
BE A COMPASSIONATE AND RESPONSABLE PERSON FOR THE ANIMALS AND ENVIROMENT ??????
I like your style and post
I take used ones back to store for recycle -- keep forgetting to take my "green" bags to store -- need to try and get that set as a routine when I go shopping!!!
Me, too, Thomas.
Thomas, all you have to do is keep them in your car so that you'll never forget them! :-)
I have reuse able bags in my car. Plastic keeps ripping up on me.
@ Anna - I need to do a better job for sure -- I think they are in back somewhere but can't find them!!!
In Canada many businesses charge a nickel for a plastic bag. This has helped get people to carry their own reusable bags. In the U.S., when I bring my own bags many times clerks ignore them or make snide comments.
if they do that to me a "snide "back Vietnam veteran with PTSD and I am vocal
We need to go back to paper!
