I volunteered at the sea turtle monitoring station in Tortuguero, Costa Rica 2 years ago - the naturalists working there (for basically room, board, and almost no pay) were truly dedicated. The poachers were too. The local and national government, in my observation, did nothing to get the poachers off the beaches. These local bandits boldly lazed around the beach all day, and went into action under the cover of night. Everyone knew who they were, what they were doing, and yet they were...

The poachers were too. The local and national government, in my observation, did nothing to get the poachers off the beaches. These local bandits boldly lazed around the beach all day, and went into action under the cover of night. Everyone knew who they were, what they were doing, and yet they were left alone. Made no sense. Such a beautiful country, with an amazing array of plants, birds, and other animals! I hope that security will increase for the sea turtles and for the workers who walk the beaches at night to help them.
Sadly, we seem to live in a world dominated more and more by this behaviour, of it being easier to turn a blind eye. Faced with so many challenges to restore and maintain the beauty of our planet, it is sad to witness the blatant disregard and stupidity of those in authority who are able to just impose outright bans and to put an end to whatever they wish to. I often think that mankind is its own worst enemy in many cases.
I have two kids and I dont know if they want to do somethingsimilar us JJairo..we also are crying.
Environmental justice workers must be protected. They are doing God's work. Blessings be upon them. We remember Jairo Mora Sandoval as a true hero. I demand that the President of Costa Rica bring his killers to justice and ensure no else suffers a similar fate. Costa Rica: the eyes of the world are upon you!
Exigimos justicia rapida y expedita.
The biggest problem in the area are the drug dealers and the black market. We need to attack these issues, but as we all know by now, the police in Costa Rica is inefficient. The truth is the drug dealers are the owners of the entire justice system in our country. Money can corrupt a lot of people but there are still some who are honest and are brave enough to say the truth.
Thank God for the honest leaders of Costa Rica! It's time to kick out those who are corrupted, and who would (and do) sell out the country for personal gain.
i just want so say...if Jairo, was from Costa Rica...and i understand we need every help. But whay the information is not in spanish too.
