I love my town. I've been in moore my whole life. Lost everything in may 3rd. I know how this feels. Schools need this. Keep the children, including my siblings, safe.

I agree that schools needs shelters to protect our children! My prayers are with all the families that was affected by the tornados. With that being said I think it is up to us as parents to protect our own children not the government!!!!! Think about it if all parents our in a very small amount of money add it all up we could put in the shelters that are needed after all they are our children not the governments. Maybe you dont have kids? the Government requires our children to go to school, 8 hours a day 5 days a week 9 months a year, I am a mom of 4 and here each time we have a tornado warning my kids are also taken to a hall way! AT HOME I have a basement, and storm shelter, maybe you have never been through a tornado warning? you dont understand how SUDDEN they just show up I have tornado shelter at home and at work, THE GOVERNMENT has tornado shelters at work, why in the world would we ask our...

I dont expect the government to take care of my kids I EXPECT MY KIDS TO BE SAFE WHEN UNDER THE CARE!

oh and basically what your saying is that, our government funding and the billions we already pay in taxes to pay their salaries is not enough to save a life? if they cut their own salaries by 2% every school in the US could have a tornado shelter i pay over 5000 dollar a year in to taxes get back maybe 2-3 thousand where does the rest go? welfare is big chunk of it!! so now that the government has raised our taxes, cut medicare, demands health care, raised the cost of prescription drugs,...

I BET YOU every government facility in OK has a storm shelter, and every vehicle they drive has a seat belt! BUT not school buses nor schools! however the limos and planes they take from place to place is safe! this is your opinion? let me know how far you get with that

I am all for building safer and stronger schools. But before you sign this petition, make sure you understand what it means. Don't just sign and expect the government to suddenly come up with millions of dollars to put safe rooms or shelters in every school. It will come down county by county, district by district through bond issues. Which means every community or every district that votes in a bond issue to do this will most likely have to raise local taxes. The money is not there....

Which means every community or every district that votes in a bond issue to do this will most likely have to raise local taxes. The money is not there. Oklahoma's government has consistently proven that they are not willing to spend more money on schools. Support you schools. Our state enrollment has risen 33,000 in the last five or so years, yet the state legislature has cut our school budget over 375 million in that time. So schools are literally having to do more with less. This isn't something that can be magically fixed. It's going to take people like you guys who are willing to sign the petition to see it through, vote for bond issues.

And consider the fact that our state is spending 61 million to re-do the plumbing in the capitol building.

I absolutely agree and have felt since the 1999 tornado that we needed more shelters. Mustang turned down the proposal several times for a community underground shelter! I never understood that! The only way to survive that kind of wind is underground!! If Washington can keep building underground facilities for themselves and their families, why isn't there any tax money for the rest of us? Seems that the "servants" of our governmet have become the "masters". That is typical when you pretend...

Money is power and there will be a lot of pocket stuffing in government over the whole tornado tagedy, but sadly nothing will probably change unless it's demanded!!

I disagree with underground shelters because of water concerns. Surviving the storm only to drown would be such a waste.

I can't believe this is even an issue... this should already be a law! Our children need a safe shelter in times of bad weather. If you have a heart, you will sign this petition. How can anyone not???
