Since 2008, HSLDA has been representing Uwe and Hannelore Romeike, who were persecuted for homeschooling in Germany. They fled to the United States after facing exorbitant fines, forcible removal of their children, and possible imprisonment. Our legal team won political asylum for the Romeikes in 2010 but the U.S. government overturned that decision in 2012. We are now appealing their case to the Sixth Circuit Court of Appeals. Oral arguments are scheduled for April 23, 2013. HSLDA has also initiated a petition asking the Obama Administration to grant the Romeikes permanent legal status.
