Child sexual abuse is a terrible act. Children are the future. They are too young to always protect themselves so that is where caring adults come in.
I recently went to the Southeastern Indiana Economic Opportunity Corporation's (SIEOC) 4th Annual Child Abuse and Prevention Conference. One session I went to was about child sexual development and child sexual abuse. The presenter defined and gave examples of child sexual abuse. There were of course the obvious ones involving some sort of contact, but there was also non-contact types. These included: Showing pornography to a child, deliberately exposing an adult's genitals to a child, photographing a child in sexual poses, encouraging a child to watch or hear sexual acts, and inappropriately watching a child undress or use the bathroom.
When the presenter was talking about these other forms of child sexual abuse, a woman raised her hand to speak. By this definition, her granddaughter has been repeatedly sexually abused by her father. The parents are divorced and the 8 year old girl spends weekends with her dad where he has her watch pornography with him on a regular basis. The little girl hates going to her dad's now and will pray before she leaves her mom's house for the weekend to go by fast. The mother and grandmother have been to court and talked to several police officers but nothing has come of it. Nothing has been done to the father so he continues it. All that has come of it is them learning that that the state is going to allow this because to according to them it isn't sexual abuse.
This woman had great courage to speak up and talk about this to a group of strangers, but unless laws are changed, nothing will come of it and her granddaughter will have to keep watching these sexual acts on a screen with her father. This girl is 8 years old, far too young to be seeing such things and there is no way it has not affected her or won't continue to affect her later in life. All forms of sexual abuse are detrimental to a child's development mentally and emotionally. The laws need to be changed to prosecute this type of child sexual abuse, otherwise this child and others will just have to get through their childhoods in misery, emotional pain, fear, and shame. No kind of abuse is acceptable and the government should agree as well as protect the people within their nation. Children need someone to protect them. You can be one of those people.
Sexual abuse is unwanted sexual activity, with perpetrators using force, making threats or taking advantage of victims not able to give consent. Most victims and perpetrators know each other. Immediate reactions to sexual abuse include shock, fear or disbelief. Long-term symptoms include anxiety, fear or post-traumatic stress disorder.
