PPDA: Postpartum Depression Awareness Project Ltd.
is a registered Non-profit Organization with two very important goals:
To Increase AWARENESS & RESOURCES for postpartum mood disorders!
With every step PPDA is increasing Awareness! Every January we bring awareness to postpartum mood disorders through our Awareness Month. Throughout the year PPDA holds various Awareness Events aimed at Educating the public!
We have many Resource related projects in the works to support those dealing with PPD. Our biggest resource is this comprehensive website which boasts a huge database of resources available for postpartum depression & mood disorders in Western Canada!
Our Mandate is to fill the gap, and connect sufferers of postpartum mood disorders with service providers!
Postpartum Depression and other postpartum mood disorders affect approximately 15% of Moms within the first year of giving birth. It is believed that this statistic is in fact much higher as so many Moms do not come forward. The majority of these Moms do not get help for a variety of reasons: either they go undiagnosed, are unable to find help or never come forward because of the stigma attached to PPD.
Through Awareness and Information we can change this stigma and make it easier to find help. Canadian Moms are raising our next generation and their mental health is of top priority!
