OneWebDay 2008 falls this year on a Monday. It's nine months from today (don't worry, you won't be getting messages constantly - this is a kickoff announcement).
Open access to the internet and the free flow of information online is threatened around the world. OneWebDay is a global Earth Day for the internet. It's a day to recognize these access problems and work towards fixing them.
In 2007, there were OWD events in Poland, Bulgaria, Belgium, Ecuador, Ethiopia, Israel, Benin, Colombia, Italy, Taiwan, the UAE, and some Pacific Islands, as well as several places in the US. Jimmy Wales and Craig Newmark joined a OneWebDay event in Washington Square in New York City.
OneWebDay is becoming even more timely. Please take a moment to think about how you'd like to mark OneWebDay this year. Hold a brainstorming session in January - make a plan.
Tim Berners-Lee made a video in honor of OneWebDay 2007, and we're plannning to have an in-person event with him in 2008. Here's the link to the video: http://www.onewebday.org/?p=244
Happy New Year to all.
