Have you ever heard the saying "a butterfly flapping it's wings in Singapore could cause a hurricane in China?"

My Nana once told me this when I was a young child, but at the time I didn't really understand what it meant. Now I understand.

When I was a young boy, we had a dog named Montrose. I don't remember much about him, other than he was so kind, loving, and was brown. One night, like they always did, my parents tied Montrose up to the fence in the backyard. Montrose died that night. He had jumped over the fence in the middle of the night, and had hung himself. I'll never forget that moment. Thinking about Montrose suffering like that, struggling to breathe, unable to call for help, just breaks my heart.

Ever since then, I've always wanted to help dogs, any ways that I could. As I got a little older, I came across Causes. Back then, it was only an application on Facebook. Now, it has it's own website and is an online campaigning platform that enables people who support a common cause to take action together. So when I came across this app, I immediately thought about Montrose. I began creating my own cause, the Dog Defenders.

Unfortunately, I was young, and like a lot of other people my age, I quickly moved on and forgot all about it. That decision weighs heavy on my heart. A few years later, something reminded me of that cause I had created while in high school. I did some digging, and found out that causes was now a website all on its own. I found my cause, and to my surprise, I discovered that it now has over 1.2 million members and had raised thousands of dollars towards the Buddy Dog Humane Society.

What! Really? I was in shock! I couldn't believe it. I was so proud of all you guys!

Now, whenever I hear the saying "A butterfly flapping it's wings in Singapore could cause a hurricane in China", I think of Montrose, and I think about all the Dog Defenders out there who have joined my cause, and who genuinely care and who genuinely want to make a difference.

I want to thank each and every member. Thank you guys so much.  I look forward to the future of the Dog Defenders. I look forward to helping as many suffering dogs as we possibly can. And I look forward to making a difference.
