We are committed to preserving Cambodia's traditional music and educating future generations of Khmer artists.

Over 90% of Cambodia's musicians and artists were murdered during the Khmer Rouge genocide. Compounded by the fact that Cambodian music is an oral tradition, the few songs that remain today have never been written down. We are changing that. Elastic Cambodia, the international outreach program of the Elastic Arts Foundation of Chicago, uses documentation, musical transcription, peer teaching and international artist in residencies to preserve and promote this ancient artistic culture. Through classes in Phnom Penh and Chicago, we introduce young Cambodians to traditional Khmer music and dance, and teach them how to read and write music in order to ensure that future generations will keep traditional Cambodian music and art alive.
