For over 3 months I have been trying to contact my local mpp Dipika Damerla. I have called multiple times, emailed and still I haven’t spoken to her or been able to meet in person to address my concerns on animal welfare.

For almost a year Adopt Me Canada Cat Rescue has been trying to get declawing banned within Canada. Declawing is a surgical process, which is performed on cats/kittens where ten separate amputations are done to remove the claws. Declawing is banned in nearly 40 countries and 75% of declawed cats end up with behavioral problems, litter box issues, arthritis, aggression, psychological issues and walking mobility.

Over the past few months several provinces in Canada have passed the elective pet surgeries i.e. tailing docking, ear cropping and de-barking. More provinces will follow shortly.

Over the last year many provinces have banned the selling of kittens/puppies in pet stores. In Septemeber 2011 Coun. Glenn De Baeremaeker pushed for this to be banned in Toronto, thankfully it was.

My journey in animal welfare in Canada has been a sobering experience. For 4 years I have ran a cat rescue and what I have seen and heard would leave most begging for sedatives and keep you awake for a week with nightmares.

I am not paid for what I do. Running a cat rescue consumes every moment of your life. It never ends and life seems like you are trying to bail yourself out of Titanic with a dixie cup.

I am a firm believer if you want something done right than do it yourself. Unfortunately I cannot purpose to the city of Mississauga my opinions on animal welfare and why changes should be made.

I am kindly asking the public to express your opinions to the office of Dipika Damerla. I have no choice but to reply upon her to address the subject to the city of Mississauga Council.

Please call the office directly

I really find it disrespectful that I have been trying to contact her for over 3 months and she has not even had the courtesy to email or call.

Adopt Me Canada Cat Rescue will be pushing for the banning of selling of cats/kittens in pet stores, tail docking, de-barking, ear cropping and declawing.

A big thanks to the Coun. Glenn De Baeremaeker who literally retuned my call within 5 minutes and other mps/mpps who have shown their support.

Animals have no voice, we must speak for them.
