A Campaign for Our New Home: A Lifeline for Healing and Protection

Dear Heshima Kenya Supporters,

As many of you know, Heshima Kenya opened its doors nine months ago as the first organization in Kenya dedicated to closing the gaps in protection experienced by orphaned and separated refugee children living in Nairobi. Respect and recognition for our programs from the refugee communities is growing and international institutions such as the US Department of State and United Nations have applauded our shelter and education programs as innovative and necessary. Most importantly, the kids we are assisting are learning, healing emotionally and physically and believing they have the power to change their lives.

We have been searching for a larger location to accommodate our shelter and education programs – and last Friday we found our new home! Although the previous program locations met our needs at the time, the spaces were small and distanced far from each other. We also found it necessary to attain a private site located away from the bustle and insecurity of Eastleigh, a suburb of Nairobi, to a less congested and more peaceful area. Most importantly, our new site offers a secure refuge to vulnerable refugee children experiencing physical threats from previous abusers.

Our new home has 4 bedrooms for our Safe House program and a large living room and outdoor space for our Children’s Empowerment Project. In order to keep this space thriving, we have funds to support the home through the next four months but need additional contributions to support our operating costs for the remaining eight months– all which will cost nearly $2,000 a month, inclusive of security. To sustain this critical space, we are asking for your generous support.

As members of our community, many of you expressed interest in donating – now is the time to help. Please give what you can through our donation link on Facebook or donate on our website: $5, $10 or $100 all helps! Forward this to others, and let’s join together to create grassroots change and establish a safe home for these children. Thank you so much for your thoughtful and kind support.

Best wishes,
Talyn Good and Anne Sweeney
