Request for Support-"Project Home"

Dear Friends,

Along with seeking general operating support for our programs, we are developing a very special art project through Heshima Kenya's education program; The Children's Empowerment Project (CEP). The CEP develops peer support and provides a forum to these children where they can understand their rights while gaining skill-sets which foster self-sufficiency. As such, we are extremely excited and privileged to work with Deqa Abdi, an established and passionate Kenyan-Somali artist and activist who inspires vulnerable children to express their voices and ideas through art. Deqa has highlighted the work of past participants in exhibits held in New York City, Nairobi and the UK. Through the creative lens of paint, photography, audio recording and collage, Deqa will be working with the Somali girls enrolled in our CEP on a 10-session project entitled “Home.”
In order for the “Home Project” to be successful, we are in need of financial support to help fund the resources necessary to produce and exhibit the children's work. The “Home Project” is a tremendous opportunity for the girls to connect with a Somali role-model who will help develop their own creativity as a way to explore loss, self-expression and new ways of coping. We also intend to exhibit the children's work in Nairobi and the United States to create awareness about the plight of unaccompanied refugee children.

We deeply appreciate your consideration and support! If you would like to donate, you can do so directly through Facebook, or our website, heshimakenya.org. We welcome your ideas, inquiries and questions. Please email us at info@heshimakenya.org, or talyn@heshimakenya.org.

Thank you!
