The French Will Never Forget, Inc.

“D-Day”: 1944 / 2014 - 70th Anniversary on June 6, 2014

A grateful tribute from the French to be held over Lady Liberty.

Remembering June 6, 1944:

Starting 1:00am: 17,000 US Paratroopers are dropped behind enemy lines. - 6:30am: 73,000 US Army troops engage in the largest amphibious landing in history. By the end of the Day the liberation of France had started and 2,500 young Americans had made the ultimate sacrifice.

As an homage to these heroes, and to the estimated 180,000 others, who also made the ultimate sacrifice for the liberation of France, the association “The French Will Never Forget” (a non for profit 501c3 association) with critical help from the French authorities has planned a fitting, grandiose and moving tribute

On June 6, 2014.

On that day the (aptly named) frigate “La Fayette” and the projection and command ship “Mistral“ will call onto New York port. Around noon a French Army helicopter, fitted with a special container, hanging from its under belly, will take off from the “Mistral”, and take a flight path towards the Statue of Liberty.  Once properly positioned, the container will be remotely opened and one million rose petals will be showered over Lady Liberty. A Lady Liberty overlooking the two gigantic French and American flags of the association, and with whom she will share a few petals. They will have been unfurled at her feet, in advance, by over 100 French children.

A reception on Liberty Island will follow the event. Dignitaries will speak, WWII veterans will be recognized, Honor Guards will provide decorum, and both national anthems will be performed.

On that day, once more, the French people will express their gratitude to America, their oldest friend and ally, for their regained freedom, and will do so in such a grand and emotional fashion over the worldwide symbol of Liberty.
