We are all reeling from the tragic school shootings in Chardon, Ohio this week. It is a sobering reality check that this type of violence can happen at any time and we all have more work to do to prevent it. According to the Center for Disease Control, homicide is the second leading cause of death among youth aged 10-24 years in the US. Here is a link to read more about risk factors of youth violence: http://www.cdc.gov/ViolencePrevention/youthviolence/riskprotectivefactors.html The CDC also sponsors a program called STRYVE (Striving to Reduce Youth Violence Everywhere) that aims to give communities the knowledge and resources they need to successfully curb and prevent youth violence. You can start helping your community with their trainings here: http://www.safeyouth.gov/Pages/Home.aspx Whatever your answer to the poll, make sure you talk to parents and kids about youth violence, keep an open dialogue and an open mind, and share your thoughts with the cause in the comments here.
