Back to Education

Update on May 02, 2012

Thank you for signing the petition demanding that for-profit colleges stop taking advantage of our veterans. We’re excited to report that President Obama has heard the concerns and signed an executive order last Friday that will require for-profit colleges to do three key things:

- Provide more information about actual tuition costs and prospects for graduation
- Make it easier for troops to register complaints
- Direct the Veterans Administration to trademark the term “G.I. Bill” to make it harder for colleges to create websites that resemble official government sites

For-profit colleges are just one part of an ever-growing student debt crisis. With increasing tuitions and a potential hike in student loan interest rates, graduates are struggling to make ends meet and often defaulting on their loans.

There are many ways to join the movement of people committed to ensuring education remains attainable for all! See below for two recent petitions you can sign.

PETITION: Tell Congress to pass the Student Loan Forgiveness Act

PETITION: Tell US lawmakers to ensure that federal student loan interest rates don’t double from 3.4% to 6.8%
