Yesterday, Jeremy Hunt, Secretary of State for Health announced his decision following the IRP (Independant Reconfiguration Panel) report on the Safe & Sustainable review on Children's Congenital Cardiac Surgery in the UK. We are deeply disappointed that nearly a year post decision on Child Heart surgery, we are again up in the air. JH has instructed NHS England to look at the findings of the IRP report, and come back to him by the end of July with a plan to take things forward.
To what extent this will have on the S&S review in as yet unclear, but we may be facing a further review. As more information is forthcoming, we will keep you up to date. Surgery at The Children's Heart Unit is unaffected by this latest development, and it is very much business as usual. I thank everyone for their continued support of this Centre of Excellence we are blessed with at Freeman, our support will never falter, and we will shout loud to ensure it continues.
