to empower children and adults with affordable tools for knowledge sharing and literacy learning, as an effective means towards advancing education, health, economic development, and human rights.
Literacy Bridge (http://literacybridge.org, see also the facebook group) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit charity building the Talking Book Device, a low cost audio player and recorder, for children and adults in the developing world. Children and adults will use the device for literacy learning and knowledge sharing.
We are also building the Content Distribution Network that will make the audio content accessible to all the potential users.
With over one billion people without minimal literacy skills, the majority of people living in extreme poverty are not able to use written information to improve their lives. This is why we are extremely excited about the empowerment potential of the Talking Book!

1. In a world of limited resources, access to knowledge uniquely empowers people in their fight against poverty and disease.
2. Efficient knowledge distribution multiplies the impact of existing poverty reduction programs.
3. All people must have access to empowering knowledge, whether or not they can read, are disabled, or have access to electricity.
