Sumter High School is Hosting a Walk to raise Lupus Awareness on May 13, 2011.
Sumter, SC February 25, 2011- Sumter High School Junior Student Government Representatives are hosting a walk to benefit 28 Below Foundation at Memorial Stadium on May 13, 2011. 28 Below Foundation offers programs and services focusing on children, teens and young adults who have Lupus.

1.5 million Americans suffer from Lupus. That is 1 out of every 200 Americans and it is estimated 16,000 Americans develop Lupus each year. Ninety percent of Lupus patients are women. In a nationwide poll of 1,000 adults conducted for the Lupus Foundation of America, 61% said they knew little to nothing about Lupus. According to the Arthritis Foundation, about 25,000 children and adolescents have Lupus or a related disorder.

“I knew every little about lupus when my 14 year old daughter nearly lost her life from the disease. Everyone knows what cancer and heart disease is, now is the time for everyone to learn what lupus is because it is just as deadly as any other disease.” Joyce Shreve, Founder/Director of 28 Below Foundation.

The walk is Friday May 13, 2011 at Memorial Stadium. The walk begins at 7:00 p.m. and check in begins at 5:45 p.m.
