Back to Say YES to Greece's heritage, our heritage

Is Global Austerity the Real Culprit of Disappearing Antiquities?

Perhaps this is a global concern rather than a Greek one.

But there is no question that global austerity put Greek antiquities in a situation equivalent to what one would consider an inconvenient truth.

Randy Kennedy wrote, "Greek and international archaeologists and curators warn that the real consequences of the cuts will not become fully apparent for years and will be far more dire for ancient artifacts and historical scholarship," in his article from NYTimes.

And so, as we wait for real bad things to happen, perhaps it will be too late when we finally realize that it is not just the 'looters' we should be concerned about, but like they say, "the elements and developers' bulldozers" that bring down our cultural artifacts.
