I am working with Dr. Joel Bennett to launch a new, experimental, and interactive social network that combines three elements – a webinar, a Facebook ‘Cause’ page, and an ongoing, public survey of social climate in workplace wellness. The purpose of this network is to advance broader awareness of the importance of social connection to all areas of health and wellness. As stated on the FB Cause Page (“We in Wellness”): Because social connection is a key ingredient in well-being, we support all efforts to promote this basic human truth. My hope is that this network becomes a way to bring different groups together for a common cause. The current movement toward health-care reform can benefit by a common voice that pulls together all of us working to promote the social good around health. This includes any and everyone working in these fields: social capital, connectedness, social networking, social support, collaborative models, community-based organizations, positive leadership, culture of health initiatives, the recovery movement (including 12-step), community coalitions, integrated non-profit agency, prevention, large group social technologies, organizational development, de-stigmatization, help-seeking and help-giving, workplace team-based efforts (health campaigns), etc. There is a common theme across all of these efforts and we are looking for ideas, plans, contributions, and community. Please join in.
HOW TO GET STARTED:
(1)Sign-up for the initial webinar
(2)Join the Cause
(3)Complete the survey
Quick note about the survey: This is a draft survey that will give us a “conversation piece” and a way to enroll others into the cause. It is based on work Dr. Bennett has been doing with “Health & Productivity Climate” (HPC) and captures seven core dimensions of HPC: wellness, work-life balance, engagement, accountability, helping, coping, and communication.
1. It comes in many forms (cohesion, support, group sports)
