Meerkat and Mongoose head anatomy

Wb

Head Anatomy with the Yellow Mongoose Cynictis penicillata compared to the Meerkat Suricata suricatta:

Eyes: Horizontal pupils - not round as with Meerkats
Ears: Papery thin and large with fine hair covering them, no fleshy sealable valve and not thick and fleshy as with Meerkats.
Zygomatic arches: Very narrow resulting in a slender face - Meerkats have a much broader, shorter skull with larger eye orbits.
Dental formula: is 40 with four carnassial teeth - the Meerkats is 36 with no cutting teeth - instead with crushing and puncturing teeth.
