Planet Hope is a non-profit sailing organization mentoring at-risk teens through the sport of sailing.

The power of mentoring young people has clearly been seen in those students who have active adult involvement in their lives. We seek to bring adults and teens together to build relationships as they have exciting experiences together. We provide many adventurous classes and activities centered around sailing the Chesapeake Bay and its tributaries.

Sailing develops teamwork, communication and other skills that prepare students for future success. As teens are taken out of their usual environment, they surprise themselves with their new accomplishments. They conquer the water!

The director of Planet Hope, Rev. Jeff Bowen started teaching students to sail over 15 years ago and has watched the incredible change that happens in teens as they work together as a crew.

In 1999, after seeing first hand the challenges of growing up in urban America, Rev. Bowen began building this program for inner-city teens. Now Planet Hope offers 10 weeks of sailing camps in the summer along with classes and sailing clubs throughout the regular school year.

1. We believe in the power of mentoring young people.

2. We believe in the effectiveness of teamwork in the context of adventure to shape character.
