Nigeria's former President Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida has signalled his intention to run for the presidency of Nigeria again in 2011. His last tenure from 1985 to 1993 witnessed the onset of the breakdown of Nigeria's economic and social fabric signified by mass exodus of young educated Nigerians to other countries, massive brain drain that robbed the country of the much needed human resources to move it forward, a breakdown in the education system meaning Nigeria was producing half baked graduates, massive and unprecedented level of corruption and the annulment of the June 12 1993 elections, the freest and fairest election ever conducted in Nigeria.
Opposition mounts against him as civil society in nigeria gather support to halt his return. “Nigerians Say No to Ibrahim Babangida as President” is a group led by Modupe Debbie Ariyo, a UK based NGO leader, other NGO leaders and some prominent lindividuals. The group is strategising on ways to halt his return to office. On facebook alone, the size of the group is over 3000 members just within 3 days, with over 45 links to websites and newspapers crusading against IBB. The number is rising by the second.
IBB had 8 good years to make a positive impact, he failed us and he failed our children. Nigerians don’t want him to come back as
