About

Our mission statement: Planting Churches, Nurturing Growth, Harvesting a Nation.

Planting Churches – The central “task” of our work in Angola, because God has chosen to accomplish His mission through His people. Therefore, one of the greatest things we can do is to help establish healthy bodies of His people, who in turn can carry on their part in His mission. It’s like passing the torch in a race toward the Olympic opening ceremony, except that we have the joy of witnessing one torch after another flicker into flame, until the whole countryside is alight with the gathered people of God, bringing Him glory.

Nurturing Growth – Our “task” of planting churches isn’t a numbers game. We love the word nurturing because it captures the deeply personal, heartfelt care that engenders healthy maturation. Mothers nurture their babies. Gardeners nurture their vegetable plants. Each of Paul’s letters in the New Testament is written to nurture young church plants. Ours will be the soul-taxing and soul-rewarding work of mentoring, teaching, accompanying, and praying over churches and Christians who are growing more and more into the image of Christ.

Harvesting a Nation – The goal of planting and nurturing is, of course, harvesting. But the wonderfully paradoxical bit is, we don’t get to do the harvesting. “I planted, Apollos watered, but God gave the growth.” Christ will build His church. God will gather the nations to Himself. Angola will be His only when He brings them in. And so, in the end, our team mission drives us back to our knees, where we fervently pray that God will accomplish the mission that is far beyond our ability, far even beyond our dreams.

"After these things I looked, and behold, a great multitude which no one could count, from every nation and all tribes and peoples and tongues, standing before the throne and before the Lamb, clothed in white robes, and palm branches were in their hands; and they cry out with a loud voice, saying, 'Salvation to our God who sits on the throne, and to the Lamb.'”
