Dear family and friends,
Wow, what a day May 2, 2010 turned out to be! After ten months of many, many people putting their hearts and souls into an idea and a dream that Dean had, we accomplished everything that we set out to do! I am so very thankful for our board members, sponsors, committee heads, inspiration team, volunteers, Belleair Country Club, community partners, partner foundations, players, PGA family, donors, family members, friends, international friends, musicians and special guest speakers! THANK YOU!!!
At our very first foundation meeting last June, we agreed that if we were going to put on a golf tournament, it would have to be a tournament where at the end of the day, everyone walked away saying, "Now that, was a golf tournament"! We were committed to holding an event that was not only fun and professional but that would educate and inspire, an event that would make Dean proud, well, mission accomplished! The reviews and comments that are coming in are nothing but positive, here are just a few of the comments that we have received:
“I have played in probably over 100 tournaments and this was the best run tournament I have ever played in. Great fun, wonderful course, great gift bag, tremendous volunteers and great food. Please tell your sister what a wonderful job she and the rest of her volunteers did. Hope you invite me back next year.”
“That being the first of the DHF charity event, I was equally surprised as many of the speakers were, of the turn out. And it also was an experience for me to see how giving many of the people were. All in all it was a benefit for me to help out a great cause such as the DHF.”
“OMG! Although I new this would be a big deal because you have worked on it for a year, it exceeded all of my expectations. All of the Black Diamond gals have been to many, many of these types of events and they all said this was the best, most informative, fun, organized event ever!”
At this time, I am so excited to annouce that we met and actually exceeded our financial goals!!! As a start up foundation, from our first event, we will be able to meet our commitments for a sun shade at The Chi Chi Rodriguez Academy and a donation to The Dean Hedstrom Research Fund at UCSF headed by Dr. Adil Daud! WOW!! Dean is smiling down on each and every one of you!
BUT - the best part of the day, Drs. Michael Krutchik and Richard Miller along with their team from Bay Dermatology conducted approximately 200 skin checks and found 22 probable skin cancers! If we can do this at every event, just imagine how many lives we will be saving!
Buckle your seat belts, this is only the beginning for the DHF!!!
On behalf of the entire Hedstrom family, we thank you all from the bottom of our hearts!
