To educate golfers, especially juniors, regarding the risks of long term exposure to the sun, the importance of sunscreen and the importance of routine skin checks resulting in early detection.
Dean Hedstrom served his tenure as a PGA Golf Professional in the North Florida Section and was a past North Florida Section Teacher of the Year. He fought Stage IV Melanoma for two years. His dream was to create a world free of this deadly disease. He was especially concerned with educating young golfers about prevention and awareness of the dangerous effects of the sun.
We will be donating sun shades to cover golf course driving ranges that promote The First Tee and American Junior Golfers Association. We will also be conducting educational programs and supplying sunscreen for the kids at these facilities.
Our first recipient will be the Chi Chi Rodriguez Academy and Youth Foundation in Clearwater, FL. The mission of their foundation is to use the game of golf to help struggling children win in the game of life by improving their self-esteem, work ethic and social and academic future through lessons learned on the course.
We will be holding the first annual Dean Hedstrom Foundation for Melanoma Awareness Pro-Am Golf Tournament on May 2, 2010 at Belleair Country Club in Clearwater, FL.
We will also be raising funds to support the Dean Hedstrom Foundation Research Fund at UCSF.
We have no paid employees, at least 95% of all money raised will go directly to our cause.
Please join us in our fight and help us save lives!
2. Of the 60,000 people diagnosed with Melanoma each year, over 8,000 will die from this devastating disease.
