Make your mobile ‘miaow’ with cat charity ringtone!

A new mobile phone ringtone that features a cat purring and miaowing has just been released by Cats Protection in a bid to raise vital funds to help the thousands of unwanted and abandoned cats across the UK.

The ringtone, which was originally a recording made by an employee of the charity of their own pet, has been the trademark ‘on hold’ music for callers to the charity ever since.

However, frequent requests from callers for the recording prompted the release of the ringtone. “Our supporters really enjoy listening to our hold music and offering it as a ringtone gives them a chance to have it wherever they go,” explained James Blake, Communications Manager.

“It has proved to be a fun way for people to help the cats in our care and it will hopefully have a bit of a viral effect – we are hoping people will recommend it to their cat loving friends and families.”

Cat enthusiasts wishing to download the ringtone can text KITTEN to 88222 at a cost of £3 (2 x 1.50 SMS messages) plus one text at service provider’s standard rate – of which approximately £2 will go towards helping cats in the charity’s care.

The release of the ringtone follows the charity’s recent venture into the telecommunications industry in December 2008 when it launched its own directory enquiries service, 118 515, which donates 9p from every enquiry made to helping cats in need.

The 118 515 line can give callers the contact details of any person or business and is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
