A 28-year-old man has been arrested in Cameroon for trafficking in lion skin.
The man was arrested around 4 pm on Tuesday 23rd July 2013 after he was spotted trying to sell a lion skin in Mbandjock, a small town in Cameroon, that is rather known for sugar production. He declared to law enforcement officials that he obtained the lion skin in 2012 but did not specify the origin of the skin. It is believed that the skin must have come from one of the protected areas in the North of the country that still host a couple of lions.
The man who is resident in a nearby town travelled to Mbandjock to sell the lion skin when wildlife officials working in collaboration with the police arrested him. The operation was carried out with the technical assistance of The Last Great Ape Organisation – LAGA
