Good News from Best Friends Animal Society!

Hello fellow animal lovers and advocates! It’s been a while since we’ve talked and we just wanted to let you know we’re thinking about you.

My name is Carrie Smith and I work on the Social Media Team here at Best Friends. We’ve been staying busy here at the sanctuary taking care of nearly 1,700 animals. We provide them with the proper food, medical care and treatment, training and all the love that they need to be healthy, happy animals. And thanks to the 33,000 visitors we get yearly, we have lots of help!

We’re excited to tell you what’s happening at the sanctuary and the work we are doing in other communities.

1) The Puppy Care Center that was opened last year is being used to its best advantage! (Fun fact: It can house up to 240 puppies and their nursing mothers!) The Puppy Care Center includes indoor/outdoor runs, a puppy park (complete with lush grass to romp on!), and our state of the art socialization room! This socialization room is great for our puppies to become accustomed to all the new things that they can expect to see and hear in their future forever home. They also get to mingle with people of all ages and other puppies of course!

2) Our Cat Initiative team recently made a trip to Tangier Island, off the coast of Virginia, to assist with a huge TNR (trap/neuter/release) effort. Over half of the island’s feral cat population (250 cats) were trapped, spayed or neutered, and returned to the colony. We will be returning soon to Tangier Island to finish the job and TNR the remaining community cats.

3) This May and June we held a Pet Super Adoption event in Los Angeles and New York. We invited local rescues and shelters to bring their adoptable pets to the event. All together nearly 800 animals are now in homes!

Of course, there’s been much, much more but I’ll keep this as short as I can.
