Hands Off Point Peron (HOPP) are holding an IMPORTANT Protest Rally this Tuesday 23.10.12 from 5-6pm Outside Rockingham City Council Offices, Civic Boulevard, Rockingham WA
WHY: At the Council meeting inside at 6pm Rockingham City council will be voting to decide which 5 major projects to lobby the State Government and the Labor party about in the lead-up to next year's State election. The Point Peron canals and marina development (Mangles Bay marina) is currently down on Rockingham City councils list as one of the 5 major projects to lobby for.
We must change this by highlighting to the media and to our elected representatives on council that despite the 'spin' from the developers Cedar Wood's, the Rockingham community simply don't want this expensive and destructive development to go ahead. If it goes ahead ratepayers are going to end up paying for the expensive and ongoing costs of the dredging needed to keep the access channel open and the maintenance costs of the seawalls. Not only does Cedar Woods want to destroy our marine and cultural heritage at Point Peron, they want us to pay for it as well!
Please come along and collect a sign from our Green HOPP van to hold up outside the council offices from 5pm onwards so that councillors, the media and the public in general can see just how much local opposition there is to this ridiculous project. If you are a Rockingham City ratepayer come inside for the 6pm meeting and during public question time ask a question of council to indicate your opposition to the proposed development.
PEOPLE POWER IS NEEDED IF WE ARE TO WIN THIS BATTLE TO SAVE POINT PERON- see you there!
