Back to Cure SMA

2nd Annual “Hope on the Hill” Congressional Dinner to Raise Funds and Awareness for Spinal Muscular Atrophy.

November 20, 2013.

The 2nd Annual “Hope on the Hill” Congressional Dinner to raise over $100,000 for Families of SMA’s research initiatives.

December 3, 2013 kicks off the start to several events and activities in the year ahead which will lead us into The 2014 Annual SMA Conference in Washington D.C. in June. We hope to build momentum throughout the year increasing awareness of our mutual goals in advancing treatments for SMA with government representatives and agencies.

Some of the key items we will be focusing on are:
-Newborn screening for SMA.
-Accelerated approval process and breakthrough designation for orphan drugs.
-FDA patient advocacy efforts and involvement.

The “Hope on the Hill” Congressional Dinner will be honoring Rep. Richard Hudson of North Carolina, Rep. Scott Garrett of New Jersey, Rep. Fred Upton of Michigan and Rep. Greg Walden of Oregon. These Members are long-time strong advocates for our efforts. Mr. Hudson was elected to Congress in November 2012 and serves as a member of the House Agriculture, Education & Workforce and Homeland Security Committees; Mr. Garrett is a senior member of the Budget Committee and serves on the Financial Services Committee as Chairman of the Subcommittee on Capital Markets and Government-Sponsored Enterprises; Mr. Upton is the Chairman of the powerful Energy & Commerce Committee, which has jurisdiction and oversight of the FDA; and Mr. Walden is a senior member of the Energy & Commerce Committee and a member of the House Republican leadership.

In addition, we would also like to thank the sponsors of this wonderful event, particularly our pharmaceutical and biotech partners sponsoring the event, which include Pfizer, Inc, Biogen Idec and Isis Pharmaceuticals.
