Back to Don't Palm Us Off - label palm oil so we can save orangutans

Want to get Woolworth's to use certified sustainable palm oil?

Woolworths has reduced the use of palm oil in its Select range food products and has committed to working through the Homebrand range. However it admits to challenges in removing palm oil including performance attributes of alternatives, nutritional issues and increased costs.

Woolworth's is now about to review its policy given the progress made by the Roundtable for Sustainable Palm Oil (RSPO) in setting standards and the fact that certified sustainable palm oil is available along with growing concerns with regard to replacement of palm stearin with alternatives with trans fats.

Woolworths has initiated a forum on 30 September to discuss all different perspectives including health and nutrition, environment groups and industry representatives. The Palm Oil Action Group will be represented. At the forum, the group will deliverat least 500 letters requesting that if Woolworths is to use palm oil, that it be labelled and, most importantly, certified sustainable palm oil only.
