The Central Pennsylvania Food Bank is gearing up their services to accommodate ALL STATE WORKERS who are affected by the budget impasse. STARTING JULY 20, 2009, all you have to do is call the Food Bank at 564-1700.

Tell them you need to come in for a box of food. The box will feed a family of FOUR for one week and they will continue doing this EVERY TWO WEEKS until the budget is passed.

Their address is: 3908 Corey Road Harrisburg PA.
This is off of Union Deposit Road, located by the Twin Ponds Ice Skating Rink.

You can Google the directions.

The hours of operation for the food bank will be as follows: MONDAY, WEDNESDAY and FRIDAY 8:00 to 4:00 p.m., and on TUESDAYS AND FRIDAYS they will extend their hours 8:00 to 6:30.

The only thing you need to do when you get there is SHOW YOUR STATE ID BADGE.

The lady in charge said that she called the GOVERNOR’S OFFICE, but NO ONE CALLED THEM BACK YET. SHE WANTED TO KNOW HOW TO GET THE WORD OUT. She asked me what the best way would be AND I TOLD HER AFSCME.

I’ve called DC-90 and left all of this information for MARY and I’ve asked her to call C-13 and let them know. It would be a good idea for everyone to put this information on their bulletin boards.

This is a wonderful thing they are doing. They said they realized that the local churches would not be able to handle this, so they did this on their own. I think it is the only good news that we’ve had in awhile.

At least we know people won’t have to go through ANY RED TAPE, and can just call and go pick up their food.

I also was given John Waters number (United Way) by Mary and I’ve called him and he said he would be surprised if the food bank would be able to help us. Well I can call him and let him know!

God Bless everyone that is trying to look out for their fellow workers! I know some of you have been calling and making arrangements for others and finding out where to turn for help.

This information put smiles on a lot of my co-workers’ faces—at least they know they can go get food.

I haven’t heard any information about the budget today and I hope we don’t have to do this, but if we don’t get paid, people can pay their bills and go get this box of food to help out. Just remember the date is JULY 20TH— if the budget is not passed!

The boxes will ALSO be available to those who live outside of Dauphin County but work in Harrisburg starting July 20th.
