This is an awareness cause to help people understand kidney transplants and donations.
I am a 20year old woman from Johannesburg South Africa. Almost 9 years ago i was diagnosed wit renal(kidney) failure and have been getting dialysis since 2006. I spend about 18 hours a week at the hospital 12 of wich i am conected to a machine that functions as a artificial kidney and extracts all toxins and extra fluid from my body(Thats 624hours a year). Having complete renal failure means your kidneys no longer do their job. Dialysis is not a cure just a treatment the only way to cure renal failure is with a transplant. Becoming a donar is very easy but not a decision that is taken lightly. For info on becoming a donar in South Africa you can go to the Organ Donar Foundation website or call them toll free on 0800 22 6611. My Boyfriend(soon to be husband) wants to donate for me and we have been working real hard on getting our tests done but we have been having trouble finishing becouse of funding. My ultimate goal for this cause is to hopefully start a fund for donars so that they don't have to pay for any tests regarding the transplant its a very big long term goal. I believe it's not fair that they should pay after all they are allready giving the gift of life, why should they have to pay for it too? Another goal is to raise awareness about kidney failure and get people to help in any way they can lets try and invit as many people as possible maybe we can make a difference. Thank you for joining and if you have any questions feel free to post them on the wall and I will answer them as quickly as possible! :-)
