Celebrating over 30 Years of Creative Exploration

The San Francisco Children's Art Center is a non-profit organization whose mission is to empower children and foster their sense of self through artistic exploration. Through this process, Art Center students learn to view the world as a place filled with possibilities where they can shape and express their own vision.

Our focus is on a process-oriented art experience. While providing instruction in the use of art materials and techniques, our teachers guide students through the creative process in an effort to elicit and support each child's individual style of visual expression. Rather than simply following directions to construct prescribed art "products," children in our classes learn to trust their own creative impulses.

We offer a full range of classes in our Fort Mason studio, for children ages 22 months to 12 years of age. Classes begin for two year olds and preschoolers, as well as an adult/child class for toddlers and their caregivers. School-age children have the opportunity to attend topic classes where they can choose from themes such as Photography Mixed Media, Art in the Garden, Clay, and Pictures and Words. As funding allows, we also provide off-site classes for community organizations in San Francisco and offer a scholarship program for children who otherwise would be unable to attend classes at our studio. Weekend programs include classes on Saturdays, and Art Birthday Parties and Family Workshops on Sundays.

We are located in Fort Mason Center, also home to a number of arts organizations including SFMOMA Artists' Gallery and the Museo ItaloAmericano, as well as Greens Restaurant with their popular Greens-to-Go counter. The view of the Bay and the Golden Gate Bridge, and nearby Marina Green and Crissy Field, make it a wonderful place to visit. Weekday parking is plentiful, and there is a supermarket, post office, library, and cafes nearby.
