Urge Congress to End Chimpanzee Experiments

Ask your member of Congress to end the use of chimpanzees in cruel, painful, and ineffective experiments. More than 1,000 chimpanzees are suffering in U.S. laboratories.

As a result of their use in experiments, chimpanzees can experience early separation from their mothers, social isolation, prolonged captivity, sensory deprivation, and repeated physical harm.

Chimpanzees and other nonhuman primates are used in medical research because of the assumption that they are closest to humans in physiology. Yet nonhuman primates are profoundly different from humans at the genetic and molecular levels, where disease processes and treatment take place.

Now we have an opportunity to save chimpanzees—and help human medicine.

1. Chimpanzee research is unethical. The mistreatment, isolation, and cruel experiments these animals endure cause serious psychological damage.

2. Chimpanzee research is unnecessary. There are better ways to learn about human health problems.
