About

To require an automatic Amber Alert be issued for any child under 12 years old missing 5 hours or more

On March 27th 2009 Sandra Cantu went missing from her mobile home park in Tracy, California. The Tracy Police department responded quickly but never issued an Amber Alert because Sandra's disappearance did not fit the requirements to issue an Amber Alert. 10 days after her disappearance Sandra's body was found in a piece of luggage about 2 miles from her home. Please join this cause to try and spread the word that our childrens safety is our priority. And we must make it clear that law enforcement really need to issue an Amber Alert in any istance in which a child under the age of 12 years old goes missing fro more than 5 hours, even if they have no evidence of an abduction. If an Amber Alert had been issued for Sandra we may not have had to see yet another child and family facing such a tragedy.

1. California and other states do not currently have a law requiring an Amber Alert to be issued if there is no possible description of an abductor

2. The first 48 hours are the most critical hours after a child is missing
