"It's a Man's World" - Myth Busted!

"Tough times never last but tough people do," are the words of our mythbuster, Peninah Nthenya Musyimi.

Peninah grew up in the slums of Nairobi and dreamed of becoming a lawyer. She walked nine miles to and from school every day until she graduated high school.

When she couldn't afford to go to college, she decided to go after a basketball scholarship. The problem? She didn't know how to play.

Pledge to be a CARE Mythbuster today!

But Peninah wasn't to be deterred. She learned to play in one month and secured the scholarship. In 2000, she even made Kenya's national team.

Now, Peninah is a lawyer. She's also the founder of Safe Spaces, a girls' sports and leadership organization in the slums where she grew up.

Read Peninah's full story and watch the video below about the Safe Spaces program.
